Live Honestly And Truthfully

Shocking as it was and as surprised as I was, (again) I caught myself in a lie yesterday. Or rather, the Holy Spirit reproved me of it when I was alone a few minutes later. It was not the sort of lie that needed to be confessed to anyone except God. Though someone else heard it, he was probably unaffected by it. This time I had lied to myself. Often my lies do affect someone else as well as me and my relationship with the Lord. It was a secret sin. I had deceived myself. Unbeknownst to me it affected my relationship with the Lord in the moments before He reproved me of it and forgave it. The Bible forbids lying so many times because we lie so often. We wear down our conscience by lying. We convince ourselves that it is not important. Sometimes we lie by not giving the whole truth.

Matthew 19:18b: Thou shalt not bear false witness,

Romans 12:17: Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

2 Corinthians 8:21: Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

2 Corinthians 13:7: Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates.

Ephesians 4:15: But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

Ephesians 4:25: Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

Philippians 4:8: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Colossians 3:9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

1 Timothy 2:2: For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

Hebrews 13:18 Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.

James 2:10: For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

1 Peter 2:12: Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

John 8:32: And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

A lie does the opposite of the truth. A lie will capture us and keep us trapped. I hope and pray that the Lord is reproving you of your lies and freeing you from them too.
